CFD Analysis

CFD is the fastest growing component of the Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) market, and plays a role in Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) as well. CFD turns a computer into a virtual laboratory, providing insight, foresight, return on investment, and cost savings.

We are using up to date prepossessing tools to generate calculation meshes. This way we are able to work on high complexity models, to reduce redundancy and model development costs. Different manual and automated meshing strategies, including blocked, pure tetra, autohexa and hybrid meshes could be used, to reach the best results.

The most fundamental consideration in CFD is how one treats a continuous fluid in a discretized fashion on a computer. One method is to discretize the spatial domain into small cells to form a volume mesh or grid, and then apply a suitable algorithm to solve the equations of motion (Euler equations for inviscid, and Navier-Stokes equations for viscid flow). In addition, such a mesh can be either irregular (for instance consisting of triangles in 2D, or pyramidal solids in 3D) or regular; the distinguishing characteristic of the former is that each cell must be stored separately in memory. Lastly, if the problem is highly dynamic and occupies a wide range of scales, the grid itself can be dynamically modified in time, as in adaptive mesh refinement methods. (...)

For the CFD calculations we are using the code from Fluent. Fluent is the world's leading supplier of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software and services. Fluent products enable engineers and designers to simulate fluid flow, heat and mass transfer, and a host of related phenomena involving turbulent, reacting, and multiphase flow. With Fluent we are managing projects including low- and high Reynolds wall bounded flows, external aerodynamics and airfoil design.
